Thank you for putting this all together! I appreciate you sharing my post and I look forward to having a cup of tea and slowly reading through everyone’s essays ☕️💛
Wow, thank you for including my little addition to this lovely body of work by like-minded people Ruth, I feel really honoured to be included in this group. And I will slowly relish reading all of the articles, so much good stuff in what I've seen already. Best wishes!
This is an absolutely incredible compendium. I’ve flagged at least 5 articles to dive into deeply but the pull quotes have set my day ablaze. I would gladly pay $75 for a physical book with all of these included.

I have noticed the same thing, that it’s very hard to find paper neighborhood-level roadmaps for navigation in my area. Anyone have favorite sources for these? Or anyone know the right people to complain, I mean advocate, to for paper maps?
A few years ago, we found piles of bran-new laminated maps of several nearby cities at a local recycling depot. A conveniance store owner had dropped them off because no one was buying them anymore. We took them all. If I need a paper map, I either hand-draw a short version, or print out a section from google maps. You could approach your town council about paper maps, or the library, and urge them to provide paper maps to ensure that these basic skills don't get lost :)
I asked at the library and they suggested convenience stores, but the ones around us don’t carry them anymore! I will keep nagging our town :) I also want to put together some kind of mapmaking/placemaking workshop for our homeschool co-op at some point.
We can learn so much from children, can't we? I played this weekend with my godson, all he wanted to do was get lost in the woods for hours, picking up sticks. I get the same opportunity by working part-time at a local farm - peace, sunshine, and radiant people all around.
Indeed! Amelia's line really struck me: "Because, being a baby, she had “opted out” of technology by default, if I wanted to be with her, I would have to join her."
This post is extremely valuable, as it shows examples of people who are successfully living without the effects of digital involution. I believe this should be expanded into a network, potentially coordinated through print mailers, that allows those living outside of the Machine to associate with each other. Tom Swift is aiming to be such a hub. Read more here:
This is like a treasure box of thoughts! I look forward to unpacking them all. Thank you for sharing my interview on minimalism, Ruth. I am honored to be among so many lovely writers.
How cool! I look forward to slowly going through these. I thought about writing something but honestly don’t know if I’m really “unconformed”. I’m very tech- connected in lots of ways, though not in every way I think. Maybe I’ll get a better idea by reading what others have to say lol.

Excellent; take control of your lives; You are in control; not technology; you are.
