"An Interview with Ruth Gaskovski"
A glimpse behind the scenes of a homemaking career

My husband Peco and I are currently working on another in-depth article that will delve more deeply into the 3Rs of Unmachining. Keep your eyes on your inbox early next week.
In the meantime, I am posting my interview withIvana Greco, who kindly invited me to share my insights on homemaking and mothering as part of her “professional development” series on The Home Front. Homemaking is a counter-cultural career move, especially in an age when, as Mary Harrington noted in her post earlier this year, “Fully one in four American mothers return to work within two weeks of having a baby. And even in European countries where maternity provision is more generous, the political winds blow relentlessly toward “liberating” mothers from babies.” I chose the opposite route almost twenty years ago, and share a “glimpse behind the scenes” into my career as homemaker; my educational background and transition into motherhood; how my view of motherhood and homemaking has changed as our children have gotten older; what skills I consider most important; and the difficulties and rewards of mothering and home life. I hope the interview will provide some insights and encouragement.
Finally, Peco and I would love for you to join us at The Unmachined Coffee House this Saturday, Oct 28th at 3 pm EST for a live discussion of the 3Rs of Unmachining, as well as special insider reports from Dixie Dillon Lane and Hadden Turner on the Front Porch Republic Conference, including Paul Kingsnorth’s keynote speech. We are extending a special offer for this event (so it will actually cost you less than a Starbucks coffee to attend).Hope to see you there!
Until next time,

Thank you again for your wise insights, Ruth!
Loved the interview, and I'm very much looking forward to Saturday!
