And off we go! What a wonderful call to peaceful, realistic action! I can't wait to see the fruit it bears.
I want to encourage everyone to remember that when you first start out on something (anything!), you will probably not be very good at it. Don't be discouraged if you have slip-ups.
Just try again, adjusting as needed -- don't give up!
Thanks Christy :) Happy to hear you enjoyed the connection, especially as you are getting ready to embark on your own pilgrimage! On that note I had a question about your arrangements - could you send me your e-mail to schooloftheunconformed@proton.me?
I loved scrolling through these photos and ideas! So inspiring and a wonderful reminder to me about how I want to spend my time as well as new/ old things I might try. The fast certainly feels much less overwhelming when you see the feast!
Thanks for linking up to my article on Lent, too! I’ve unlocked the whole of it for the next few days so everyone can read :)
I love your photo of your knitting and Benedictus missal. As a crocheter who also uses Benedictus for Mass, I could particularly relate to it! I'm hoping to join you all in fasting from unnecessary use of the internet within the individual circumstances of my life as it involves technology, and hopefully we'll all grow in holiness through it all! God bless!
Happy to have you along Chantal :) I think that you are referring to Kerri Christopher's missal (the one displayed with the cross-stitch). I just finished my shawl and will add some wooden buttons now...
My wife and I do a digital detox each season, and learn something new each time. All about planning, pre-planning, and more...planning! Would love to join you!
The best and most lasting change comes from person to person contact, within one's own community. I am always encouraging people to get outside, read a real book, have a conversation with your neighbor.
I like to hike. Yesterday a friend and I went hiking in a new place of her choice. There had been heavy rains and it was muddy. A few places there were streams running along where usually there would be just a trickle of water, if that. I almost turned back but decided to get wet, Wade through the water. It has been a long time since I had done such a thing and it felt wonderful, even as the water was icy and now I sloshed around in wet shoes. If I had been on my own I might have turned back, but together we encouraged one another to keep on going.
Keep on going! We can all create a positive energy to battle the darkness.
Thanks for adding your reflections Karen! Having friends to help encourage us is most certainly helpful, and even though this is 'merely' a virtual community, it does help to know that others are joining in the effort to battle the darkness.
Hi Ruth and Peco, I (Bohdanna, Roman's wife) took up and learned how to knit with wool recently, which as it turns out has insulative properties against EMF. Here are some pictures we took with our Canon camera:
I’m not really feeling a fast this year....not that I really know how that would feel, lol. But I am adding things that are not technological. For example, hand hemming 12 scarves for my dance group. Needs to be done by mid-March. I’m not entirely sure why, but it seems important that I transform each of these not at all special pieces of satin with hand stitches. So I am lol. Still crocheting some simple projects too.
I am joining the communal digital fast, and will be sharing the invitation today with Renovaré Weekly readers. I appreciate the way you present the fast with options to personalize and modify so that it targets the excess precisely and doesn't burden the participant. We practice disciplines as we can, not as we can't!
I am in too! A little nervous, but excited, eager to embrace more of real life. I know I will need to lean into grace to do this and, most likely, ample doses of His mercy.
I’ve written out the weeks of lent and plan to gradually increase the tech free time each week. Hoping the gradual approach will better help me form long lasting habits rather than the boom and bust cycles
Awesome! I am ready to start! Likely mine is going to a mishmash of a few things: reading at the library to reduce TV time; returning to real life money (hiding away from debit/credit card); and restricting my social media use when I am on my laptop. I’ll write up a post at the end and let you know how it goes!
I'm here for the digital fast this Lent. Well, I was already *here*, but I've been feeling led this direction as I've listened and discerned my fast through Shrovetide, and am finding the game plan and seed catalog helpful as I set out. Thank you!

Yes, thanks for adding this extra encouragement Dixie!
Hear hear! Every moment is an opportunity to begin again (often more realistically).
The Camino metaphor and stories are just perfection!
Yes the Camino metaphor gave me a renewed perspective of excitement instead of just dread, ha!

Thanks Bohdanna! I'll be sure to include your photos in my follow-up post:)
Thank you so much Ruth! Like a quilt, all these photos of life are coming together.

I am a new pilgrim on this road.
Wonderful to have you along Sarah :)

Great to have you along Diane! Take encouragement from the knowledge that many who are joining alongside you are feeling the same :)

That sounds like a very helpful approach Kathleen. I will be interested to hear about your experience at the end of Lent :)
Okay, I'm in, only for one week as a trial, if it's good then perhaps I'll start a one week fast every month. Thank you for the inspiration!
Great to have you along Martin! It gets easier the longer you do it :)
Great article, and I appreciate all the pintables. I am very excited to attempt this digital fast.
Wonderful to have you along! You can see the original announcement post here to see all the people who are joining as well :) https://schooloftheunconformed.substack.com/p/communal-digital-fast-and-call-for
