Welcome to the Unconformed Education section of
!I look forward to sharing a variety of articles with you, drawing on my experience of homeschooling over the years including: curriculum recommendations, sample schedules, homeschooling high school, online schools, keeping records and transcripts, starting your own homeschool co-op, open source learning, and more.
Most of the articles will remain accessible for free subscribers, but some of the resources and live meetings will be offered to paying subscribers only. I keep monthly fees to the lowest allowable amount on Subtack in order to make the resources as accessible as possible.1
For paying subscribers, I will be hosting a “Curriculum Show and Tell”, during which I will be sharing a selection of my favorite curricula for various ages, and (if time allows) will also invite you to share yours!
The live zoom meeting will take place on:
Sunday, August 25th at 2 pm EST
Paying subscribers will receive a meeting link via e-mail before the end of next week.
The meeting will be recorded, so that you can view it even if you are unable to join in during the live session.
I’d love to have you join in and look forward to “meeting” some of you soon!
Let me know in the comments if you are planning to join.
Also, please let me know if there is a particular age/subject for which you would like to have curricula recommendations.
If you are unable to afford a paid subscription, send me a message to schooloftheunconformed@proton.me (no explanation needed), and I will offer you a limited-time complimentary subscription.

We are homeschooling our first grader (we also have a two year old).
I'm working and my husband is the stay at home parent. I'm curious for other families that have this set up (one parent works full time, one does not work at all outside the home) what ways have been successful for the working parent to be involved? I would prefer to be the stay at home parent but that's not possible so I'm hoping to be able to be involved in the homeschooling somehow.
Any specific feedback on the Lavender Blue Waldorf Curriculum? We are looking at that for first grade?
Also curious about ages. Waldorf and Lavender Blue seem to really push for not starting first grade or reading until they are 7. Our son made the kindergarten cut off by one day (and is enrolled in a charter where we get funds to buy the curriculum and pay for music lessons and such), so he's going into first grade as one of the youngest. Wondering if we should choose a kindergarten curriculum? It seems like the Waldorf thinking is that they should be kids focused on play as long as possible and use their imagination and not get bogged down with academics. What have others found with their first graders? Thank you so much!
