I plan to join!

We are homeschooling our first grader (we also have a two year old).

I'm working and my husband is the stay at home parent. I'm curious for other families that have this set up (one parent works full time, one does not work at all outside the home) what ways have been successful for the working parent to be involved? I would prefer to be the stay at home parent but that's not possible so I'm hoping to be able to be involved in the homeschooling somehow.

Any specific feedback on the Lavender Blue Waldorf Curriculum? We are looking at that for first grade?

Also curious about ages. Waldorf and Lavender Blue seem to really push for not starting first grade or reading until they are 7. Our son made the kindergarten cut off by one day (and is enrolled in a charter where we get funds to buy the curriculum and pay for music lessons and such), so he's going into first grade as one of the youngest. Wondering if we should choose a kindergarten curriculum? It seems like the Waldorf thinking is that they should be kids focused on play as long as possible and use their imagination and not get bogged down with academics. What have others found with their first graders? Thank you so much!

Augh, I have something at that exact date and time out of town. I will definitely be watching the recording, though. If you have any recommendations for a 9th grade health education curriculum, and a 6th grade grammar/punctuation, that would be very helpful!

I will probably have to watch later, but I look forward to it. We struggle most with consistency (my husband and I both work irregular schedules) as well as what to do with younger siblings. Our oldest is nearly 9 but we have a 3yo and 1yo that can make formal lessons difficult. We've been talking about giving the 9yo more independence in his lessons because he's a strong reader. We'd like to start the lesson together (history, natural history, literature, geography) discussing new vocabulary and connecting to the previous reading then let him read the lesson on his own and then narrate to us when he's done. We'd still do math together. I'd also like to find a Spanish curriculum and figure out how to integrate it along with Latin and maybe Greek too.

I would love to join the call! I”ve been homeschooling my rising second grader since Covid shut her preschool down. :-). We initially followed a very relaxed Waldorf-style approach, and for first grade switched to a more classical approach. Would love to get advice on curricula for her age, how to begin incorporating Latin and Greek stems and foreign language — and ideas for making sure that art and music don’t get squeezed out of our busy days. I also have a preschooler who is home with us in the afternoons and a couple of full days a week, so I would love to get tips on how to include her without the whole project going off the rails!

Yes please. I would love to join!! I would love help with being organised and help to slow down and also when kids are allowed to use devices. I usually just say no but they are sort of hoping and asking. Also I’m curious when you actually do Latin stems in the day.. I’ve downloaded and printed and we are ready to start! Thanks so much. So looking forward to this! I have three boys, ages 6, 4, and 18 months. The older two will be doing some formal learning this year, but we’ve been cultivating a culture of learning since they were babies. I feel pretty confident in the humanities, and my oldest is insatiable in his love for the sciences. My weak point is math, for sure.

We’re actually in the process of deciding whether or not we should START homeschooling. We’ve been disappointed in the public school system, but we were just redistricted so our girls will be going to a new school this year that’s considered ‘the best in the area’ whatever that means. So we’ve decided to give this new school a try for a few months or a year and then reevaluate. But in the meantime we understand that their education will be woefully insufficient, so we want to continue to supplement with additional learning at home - particularly reading and history.

We’ve really just done this haphazardly, but would really love some resources to put some structure behind it.

That was a really long way of saying : reading and history :)

Ah! We'll still be at church (west coast time) but I look forward to watching the recording! I'm homeschooling a 2nd grader. One thing that I sometimes feel very alone in is that I am homeschooling an only child. Our main challenge is interpersonal, getting on each others' nerves, tempers flaring. That might not be within the purview of this session, but since you asked...
